Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) is a non-religious community action group that distributes food, basic medical aid and counselling to the homeless and urban poor of Malaysia.

Founded by His Eminence Tsem Rinpoche, the Spiritual Guide of the Kechara organisation, KSK is strictly non-religious, being mindful and respectful of others’ beliefs. We do not discriminate in terms of race, gender or culture, our motto being “Hunger Knows No Barriers”. For this reason, our food is vegetarian.

Kechara Soup Kitchen’s mission in the short term, to provide sustenance and basic medical care for the homeless and urban poor in Malaysia. In the medium term, we aim to provide a permanent soup kitchen building as a place of safety, “off street”, for the distribution of hot food and medical treatment facilities for the homeless, whilst continuing to provide street food delivery to those who are unable to come to the centre. In the long term, Kechara Soup Kitchen’s mission is to reduce the flow of homeless living on the streets by providing a nurture centre building as a place of training and assistance to help make the homeless employable and for them to re-enter society.

Volunteers will be assigned into teams heading to designated locations within the city lead by our experienced volunteers. Task is to locate and distribute food to the homeless and urban poor clients.

Our clients often need medical help, but it is usually difficult for them to get medical assistance, primarily due to a lack of funds or missing identification documents. We welcome doctors, nurses, trained counsellors or medical personnel to volunteer their services to help treat sick clients and advise on any medical treatment required should the need arise during the distribution rounds. Schedules are all mentioned above.

Register with Mr Justin Cheah @ 010 333 3260 via SMS or Whatsapp stating the full names of the participating volunteers and the date of the Sunday you are joining.

Dress Code / Attire

To participate, we strongly encourage our volunteers to wear our KSK T-shirts for safety reasons and uniformity. It is also easier for our team to identify you on the streets in case of emergency. Our KSK t-shirts are available for every donation of RM35 per piece. The recommended dress code for all our activities KSK T-Shirts, Jeans/Pants/Bermuda shorts and covered/sport shoes. Kindly refrain from wearing any jewellery and inappropriate clothing (example: skimpy shorts, tight and low cut/revealing tops, high heels).

Transportation / Location / Parking

Kindly make your own transportation arrangements to and from the activity location as transportation is not provided. However, the transportation during the rounds will be allocated by the respective Team Leaders as we normally practice car-pools.

If you are coming in a group, kindly car-pool and pre-arrange your own groupings as you will know your group better. Do ensure that there is at least one male volunteer in each car for safety reasons. This pre-arranged grouping by you shall be fixed throughout the rounds and allocated routes for the night.

Do refer to our website for the location map for you to plan your trip down to the activity location as traffic can be quite hazardous. For activities in KL, do try to car-pool as parking around the activity location can be rather limited and is on a first-come-first serve basis.
