Free Tree Society Kuala Lumpur is an environmental organisation that spreads the environmental stewardship message through giving away trees for free to green our Earth. Since 2013, we have given away over 33,000 plants to homeowners, schools, marginalised groups, community gardens and wildlife habitats to proliferate planting, to encourage biodiversity and to promote a love of nature.

Under the umbrella of environmental stewardship and environmental awareness, waste management, rainwater harvesting, gardening and biodiversity are some of the topics that we regularly engage with visitors and volunteers. Activities are hands-on and our outdoor classroom is a world class facility.

Free Tree Society promotes the implementation of United Nations instruments and global goals on environmental issues, sustainable development, climate change, and responsible consumption and production.

As plants are grown sustainably they need lots of care. Nursery management for volunteers include transplanting, propagation, fertilising and watering the plants, pest control – whatever needs to get done! The planting and propagation of plants at Taman Tugu are geared towards providing other parks and urban forests with native rainforest trees. Volunteers may also be asked to collect plant seeds from the forest.

We provide all the tools and equipment. Volunteers are advised to wear clothes and shoes suitable for outdoor gardening work. Volunteers should bring their own mosquito repellent, sunscreen, hat and change of clothing. An umbrella or poncho may be required.

An ethos of being green and sustainable underpins all activities. When you attend our volunteering sessions, kindly try to:

Travel Green – travel via public transport or car pooling
Manage Your Waste – recycle on site, compost, think zero waste
F&B – bring your own water bottle; if catering, consider vegetarian food; ensure no plastic disposables (e.g. straws, cutlery and mineral water).
