Hello beautiful women of the world!
As millions around the world gather to celebrate International Women’s Day today, we should all remember and appreciate the women in our lives who rose above the many obstacles to fight for gender equality. Since the nineteenth century, women have achieved tremendous progress in every walk of life. We see women everywhere: in the field, boardrooms, and even in parliament.
Women’s Day is celebrated in many different ways across the globe. In Italy, Russia and Albana, men offer women yellow mimosas and chocolate; in Portugal, women get together for dinner or celebrate by partying while in Brazil, Vietnam, Croatia and Moldova, flowers are offered to women of all ages. No matter how you celebrate today, let’s not forget the ones less fortunate than us. We’ve gathered a few organizations (that are associated with women in conjunction with today) that you can give back to.
1. Women’s Aid Organization provides shelter, counselling and assistance to over 1500 women every year and they need your support to continue doing this. Check them out at http://www.wao.org.my/.
2. Pusat Kebajikan Good Shephard, Madonna Heights provides a residential home for teenage girls with family and social problems. They also tailor workshops to empower girls and women as well as manage a special school for underprivileged youths. You can give them a call at 03-42563941 to see how you can help.
3. Positive Shelter Home (POSHE) is a half way home that provides and protects children and women living with HIV/AIDS. Check them out at http://www.poshe.org/.
4. PRIDE Foundation (Pink Ribbon Deeds) is a non-profit organization dedicated to breast cancer causes. There are many ways in which you can lend a helping hand in their projects and programmes. Show your support at http://pride.org.my/.
So let’s go out and share the love on a day that recognizes women’s achievements and progress towards achieving women’s equality. Whether you are a woman or a man, you must know that International Women’s Day celebrates YOUR emancipation. As the saying goes, none of us are free until ALL of us are free.
Happy International Women’s Day!
